It’s a great day to visit Idyllwild. The temp at 6 am today was 59, which means it’ll be a glorious day in Idyllwild with temps in the low 80s.
Don’t miss the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s Judged Member Show and Working Artist’s Studio Tour today and tomorrow. The Member Show is at Quiet Creek Living Room Gallery in the village next to the Rustic Theater. The reception and awards will be this evening, Saturday, 7/14, 6-8 pm; the address is 54300 North Circle Drive.

The reception for ceramicist Leslie Thompson was very successful last night. The sparkling wine flowed freely and Duffy’s appetizers were fabulous – we ran out of both between 6:00 and 7:00 pm. We sold about a dozen of her “final” ceramics. There are some left for those who want one of these collectible keepsake works of art. Leslie’s ceramics will be on display in the gallery for the rest of this week and in to next Saturday’s Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s members’ show (mark your calendar for this event that will be from 6-8 pm) after which her prices will go up as no more of these fine pieces will be created.

The Earth Witness Foundation is sponsoring a benefit for the Sustainability program at Idyllwild Arts. The Earth Witness Foundation, based in the San Jacinto Mountains, serves to provide both onsite and outreach education programs on sustainable ecology and Native American culture to Grades K-12 in Riverside County schools. The programs teach students about alternative resourcing for the future and about the rich culture and heritage of the indigenous peoples of the region. The exhibit and performance will take place at the Quiet Creek Gallery on North Circle Drive on Saturday, February 4, from 3 – 5pm.
For more information about the event, please contact Christina Nordella at email@example.com.

Quiet Creek Living Room Gallery’s Paul Strahm won 2nd place for his plein air painting, “Breakfast Time”, at last weekend’s Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s Members’ Show. The painting represents the entrance to Idyllwild’s village area with Red Kettle on the left – a popular breakfast/lunch place. Of note is the street banner where “Casey” can just be depicted. The painting was done while Casey Abrams, an Idyllwild resident, was still in the top six on American Idle. The banner was a gift from his Idyllwild Arts Academy graduating class and said, “Idyllwild is Idol Wild for Casey, Idyllwild Arts Class of 2009″. Coincidentally, Paul’s wife, Denise is a big Casey Abrams fan.

Mark your calendar for one of our favorite summer art events of the year, the 10th Annual Plein Air & 3-D Art Festival. Friday June 10 – Sunday June 12.
Quiet Creek will be hosting a fascinating Plein Air panel with Q&A, demos, and a mini-exhibition Friday evening at 7 pm ,and also hosts the Sunday morning Plein Air exhibition, awards presentation, and champagne reception in the gallery.
Throughout Saturday Idyllwild galleries, including ours, will promote “3-D” or sculptural art of various forms: clay, glass, fabric, jewelry and such. Participating Plein air artists will be discovered with paint and easles throughout Idyllwild. Last year it was a treat to look over the shoulders of over half a dozen talented oil & acrylic painters capturing the Inn property and views of Strawberry Creek.
A few participating artists will be staying at the inn but there are still rooms available and plenty of vacation rental cabins.

|“I am now happily retired and an artist in Idyllwild, California. My career was an amalgamation of some forty years working with textile manufacturers, architects, designers, and clients who nurtured within me a passion for structure, simplicity, clarity, detail, and color. This journey helped me develop an appreciation for and an understanding of design, fashion, style, space and composition. My “internal lens” that I use for subject matter selection is based on my perception of beauty, interest, and value. Photography is “Art”, not merely a picture. It should arouse curiosity and stimulate emotion. Ideally, the viewer should be drawn into the work and contemplation should be evoked. - Ron Erskine
