Snow visited last night

A dusting of snow paid its respects at the Inn last night.  Higher elevations were more coldly embraced.

Roads are plowed (at 4:30 this morning – even though we didn’t need it) and CalTrans says chains required on Hwy 243 from Mountain Center to the fire station at Pine Cove.

Possible snow Sunday night/Monday morning

After weeks of sunny warmer than typical weather there is a 30-40% chance of snow Sunday night and Monday morning!  Keep an eye on the weather links on our web site.

Special offer during perfect hiking weather – come on up!

Day time temps have ranged in the upper 50′s and lower 60′s – perfect for hiking.

Still snow in higher elevations & roads are clear

For all of you calling to ask if there’s still snow on the ground and if the roads are clear but not really interested in booking lodging… yes there is still several inches of snow on the ground at the higher elevations in Pine Cove and probably upper Fern Valley and yes the roads are clear but there will be shady access roads still iced-over as I nearly fell on my butt on one yesterday.  Otherwise the weather is clear and sunny with highs today likely in the low 60s.  The creek is flowing and we have some lovely and loud waterfalls below our guest cabins.

Snow on the ground and sunny

There’s left over snow on the ground from Monday’s snowfall.  The slight chance of snow that was forecast didn’t happen and it’s gorgeous and sunny.  A 40% chance of precipitation is forecast for today but it seems unlikely.  The rest of the weekend should be clear or partly cloudy.

Chance of snow

Chance of snow tonight and tomorrow.  Keep and eye on the Weather & Road Conditions page on our web site.

Snow update

The snow stopped falling last night but started up again early this morning.  There’s a 3-4″  accumulation low in the valley where the inn is located and there will be more higher up in the village, Saunders Meadow,  Fern Valley and Pine Cove.  It’s a very fluffy, pretty snow.  Check out the James Reserve Environmental Observatory web cam on our Weather & Road Conditions page.

Snow is falling

Nice, fluffy snowflakes are falling and covering everything in a light coating of white.  The colder weather forestalled rain and converted it to the white stuff.  Although it’s a light snowfall it feels like the kind that can hang in all night and through tomorrow.  We could be under a blanket by morning and not just a light coating.

Snow likely Sunday and Monday

Keep an eye on the Weather & Road Conditions page on our web site.  Snow is likely today for the next two days.  When checking weather use several sources (we have two on our web page that default to Pine Cove and the other to Idyllwild).  The roads are clear but side streets and driveways can be icy and/or rough.
