Cold today, getting warmer thru the weekend

It’s cold this morning – 27 at 6:00 am at the Inn – colder higher up in Fern Valley and Pine Cove.  It supposed to stay cold today and not get too much above freezing so drive carefully.  Yesterdays snow, rain and slush will have frozen over night and the roads will icy.  I’m not sure what happened higher up in Pine Cove & Fern Valley – there might just have been snow and no rain – which would be better.

There is no accumulation of snow at the Inn, nominal through the village but more up in Fern Valley and Pine Cove.  I assume there is enough to play in higher up but don’t know that for sure.

Every day toward the weekend should be getting warmer with the highs on Sunday in the 40′s and then a chance of snow again early next week.

Raining now maybe more snow

Snow turned to rain, which turned the fallen snow to slush, by late morning and it’s been raining most of the day. Here’s an updated weather forecast that calls for possible snow this evening but no accumulation tonight – if you can believe it!

It’s snowing at Quiet Creek Inn

It’s snowing at Quiet Creek Inn, which means everywhere else in Idyllwild and even more in Pine Cove.

There’s a webcam at the James Reserve that is linked in to the Weather & Road Conditions page of our web site.

If coming to Idyllwild in the next couple of days be prepared… bring chains and appropriate clothing and footwear.

Snow update

Snow in Pine Cove and intermittent snow in Idyllwild (mostly slush at this hour).  Check our Weather and Road Conditions link.

Snow update

All roads are open to Idyillwild.  Us the Weather and Road Conditions links on our web site.

It seems it’s been raining for a week now but that’s just because I can’t remember when it started… was it Friday?  The temperature is supposed to drop today and tonight bringing the snow level down to 6,000-7,000 feet today depending on which weather site you believe.  The level tonight could drop to 5,000 feet, which will take in Idyllwild.  NOAA is forecasting as much as an inch later in the day and 2-4 inches over night.  Compare all the weather web sites – there are two on our site although the NOAA site is for Pine Cove and one has to type in Idyllwild, CA to get that forecast.

There may be snow this week and lodging is still available

We still have spotty availability of inn rooms and a few vacation rentals available for Christmas and New Year’s weekends and the week between.    Use our Availability Calendar and Photo Gallery 24 hours a day to select something or give us a call 9 am to 5 pm.

Peaceful Mountain Inn located on a view ridge in Pine Cove can take a large group booking for New Year’s weekend.  Groups should call 1-800-450-6110 to book, individuals can use the Quiet Creek Availability Calendar.

Check the weather links on our web site

Everyone planning a trip to Idyllwild during this upcoming holiday week should keep an eye on the weather.  We have two weather links on our web site on the Weather & Road Conditions page.   The first section at the top comes from Weather Underground, which seems to be the most accurate, for Idyllwild, of the commercial weather sites.  Then there’s a banner that says Weather Resources and the first one is to the NOAA (the National Weather Service) and the second link  is to the James Reserve environmental camera so one can actually see how much snow there is.  The NOAA link says Idyllwild  but it’s really to Pine Cove, which is 1,000 feet higher than Idyllwild (I just discovered this yesterday – oops).  But that’s not a bad thing as we have properties in Pine Cove and if guests want snow that’s the first place that’ll get it.  If you want to check Idyllwild using NOAA just type Idyllwild, CA into the blank box below where it says Pine Cove.

By doing this you’ll notice that snow is “likely” in Pine Cove on Wednesday night but not in Idyllwild.  So there may be some white fluffy stuff around to play in over the Christmas weekend.

Quiet Creek “Loft” mural featured in PE article

Darwin, who recently finished painting the mural in our Loft special event space, was featured in a Press Enterprise article on December 9th.  Darwin is well known, locally, for painting outdoor propane tanks but he also paints murals, business signs (Wooley’s sign for their new location on North Circle) and interior scapes.

Inns of Idyllwild Holiday Open House and Tour

You are invited to attend the Inns of Idyllwild Holiday Open House and Tour. We’ll have several creekside studios and suites available to tour as well as the Living Room Gallery and the Loft meeting room space with the Lily Rock mural by Darwin. We’re toying with offering champagne, sparkling cider, appetizers and desserts.

New Vacation Rental: Panorama

Panorama is a phenomenal home at the top of Falling Leaf immediately above the village area.  It has views in all directions: down valley and up the mountain from Marion Ridge around to Lily Rock and Tahquitz Peak.  Panorama has three bedrooms and two bathrooms and there is a spa tub in the master suite.  The standard nightly rate is $245, double occupancy (for two guests). There are photos in our Photo Gallery and Panorama can be booked through our Reservation Calendar.
