Quiet Creek recommended by LA Times

Quiet Creek Inn & Vacation Rentals was featured in the Travel Section of the LA Times today. Here’s the link: Budget-friendly weekend escapes – latimes.com

Weather and roads are clear; snow on the ground

There is no forecast for precipation until next Wednesday.  We’ve had sunny blue skies and clear roads for several days. There is still plenty of snow on the ground.  According to the DOT links on our web site, chains are not required in Idyllwild.

We have several vacation rentals to choose from for this weekend but only one studio left at the Inn for Friday and Saturday nights.  We also a couple of room types available at the Inn for either tonight or Sunday night only.

No rain, no additional snow, blue skies

The forcasts were wrong about last night.  The rain that hit the coastal areas didn’t make it this far inland we got nada. But there’s still plenty of snow haninging around from last week and we have beautiful blue skies.  Just another day in paradise!

Chance of snow tonight

A survey of weather websites indicates that we might get snow tonight that could turn to rain tomorrow.  We’ve got blue skies again today (4th day in a row of gorgeous mountain weather) with few clouds in sight.  We were supposed to have rain this morning before 4 am but it didn’t happen judging by the parts of the driveway, not covered with snow, that were dry this morning.

All roads to Idyllwild are clear although some of the steeper tributary roads can be icy first thing in the mornings.

More snow this week

It looks like more rain, possibly snow, early in the week and more likely snow by mid-week.  If you are making plans to come up this week keep an eye on the forecast AND Breaking News at http://www.quietcreekinn.com/ where we keep you abreast of what we actually see out our window.  And a beautiful scene it is (see the photos link in the previous post).

Winter wonderland under blue skies

It’s truly gorgeous right now with a blanket of thick snow coating everything under cloudless blue skies.

It’s 9:15 am.  The snow stopped late yesterday afternoon.  Most of Idyllwild got at least 18″; where the inn is located, which is slightly lower in the valley, we are covered in 10-12″.  I’ll post the additional photos I took this morning to the Photo Gallery on our web site.

According to the DOT, roads are clear but chains or snow tires are required.

We have one king suite available at the inn tonight that can be rented for a one night stay for up to two guests.  We also have vacation rental cabins available for two night minimums and we need some notice to get the ready (plow, shovel, heat up, etc.).

Still snowing

It’s 12:15 pm. This photo was taken about 11:00 am on Mike’s phone. We’re probably at 8″ of accumulation here at the inn with more higher up in Fern Valley and Pine Cove. It’s GORGEOUS!

Blanket of snow

It started snowing yesterday evening while we were at a friend’s enjoying dinner and playing games.

It’s now about 7:30 am. Overnight accumulation here at the inn appears to be about 5″. There will be several inches more in Fern Valley and Pine Cove. The forecast is for more snow today and tonight but clearing a day earlier than expected with partly sunny skies Saturday and Sunday and then more rain next week (snow if it gets cold enough).

All roads are open and are plowed frequently but chains or snow tires are required. This information is also available on our web site in the Weather & Road Conditions link.

As of yesterday the creek was at it’s typical high point at the top of the bank and flowing briskly.

If thinking about coming up to play in the snow. We have rooms available for tonight only that accommodate couples or up to a family of four, however, for tomorrow night we can only accommodate up to two guests. We do have vacation rental cabins available for up to 11 guests that have a two-night minimum but we need some advance notice or there won’t be a parking pad and they won’t have been shoveled.

It snowed this afternoon but is clear now. No idea of what will happen tonight.

Sunny, blue skies with rain & snow in the forecast

Again we are experiencing gorgeous blue skies but in an hour or so (around 10 am) the rain returns.

From our kitchen window I can see a blanket of snow on the upper ridges and on Lily Rock and we have a dusting along the shaded edges of our property so I’m guessing Pine Cove and Fern Valley have some snow on the ground but probably less than two inches according to the James Reserve cam-bot that can be moved to look at a snow ruler (quite cool if you haven’t check it out – the link is on our Weather/Road Conditions page – once there click on the camera control icon and then choose snow measurement from the drop down list). The James Reserve is located on the north side of Pine Cove and is comparable in elevation to Idyllwild.

Heavy rain is forecast for today and snow is forecast for Thursday, Friday and Saturday – “heavy” snow on Thursday. Sunday is forecast to be partly sunny. The National Weather Service link on our Weather/Road Conditions page is proving to be the most accurate for this storm system.

If your schedule is flexible, Sunday would be the day to come up and spend a few days in the snow (one-night minimum at the inn and two-night minimum in the vacation rental cabins) but keep an eye on the forecast.
