Snow & Rain

We are getting intermittent snow and rain; mostly snow higher up where most of our vacation rentals are but not much at this time.

Chance of snow reduced

According to Weather Underground’s forecast, Sunday is now more likely to just be cloudy with possible precipitation overnight and on Monday dropping to 20% from 30% a couple days ago. This probably means we’ll either get nothing or we’ll get a surprise blasting of snow; the former being more likely but the latter catching us flat-footed on occassion.

Possible snow Sunday or Monday

Update from Tuesday:

We got about 1/2 inch of snow late morning Tuesday but higher elevations, where most of our cabins are, got several inches and it’s been cold at night so it’ll hang around.

There’s a possibility of snow Sunday or Monday:

Contrary to the 15-day forecast we looked at several days ago there is now a 30% chance of precipitation this coming Sunday and Monday. It’s currently forecast to be rain on Sunday and snow on Monday. Please keep an eye on weather forecasts for Idyllwild. There is a link on our web site: http://www.quietcreekinn.com/Weather-Road-Conditions.html. Even a little snow can make roads and driveways difficult and the snow and ice could last through the week and then some. Please plan accordingly and bring chains.

If you booked one of the cabins where access is an issue because the road is not county-maintained, check the “Breaking News” link on our web site regularly as your arrival date approaches. Some cabins might be inaccessible. And even those on County maintained and plowed roads could have icy driveways that require parking just off the road, and hiking to the cabin.

Unexpected chance of snow today

It’s raining now. Not heavy but windy as well, which is making it seem down right stormy. There’s a chance of snow late morning but seems unlikely at our elevation as I think it will be too warm. It’s about five degrees warmer than the forecast says it is (Weather Underground says it’s 31, which it probably is in Pine Cove, but it’s 36 where we are in the valley), which means no snow where we are (unless the temperature stays this low) but there might be some at the higher elevations like up in Fern Valley or Pine Cove area. We’ll keep you posted.

The next couple of days are forecast to be clear, sunny and warmer; turning to partly cloudy over the weekend.

White water creek

After several days of gentle rain melting most of last week’s snow, Strawberry Creek is full again. The roar and the “white water” can be heard and seen from all the guest rooms. What a treat. Warmer than typical weather will make Idllywild a delightful getaway before the demands of the holidays.

Photos Posted for Quiet Creek Living Room Gallery’s Artist Reception

Photos have been posted to the Quiet Creek web site’s photo gallery at Artist Reception for Paul Strahm, November 2009 of the Quiet Creek Living Room Gallery Artist Recepton for Paul Strahm. The event was very well attended and both hors d’ouevres and champagne were abundant.

Beautiful fall photos by guest George Holguin

A guest who stayed with us on November 7th, 2009 sent me a slide show of photos he took during his visit. Some are of Idyllwild features but most are of the Inn and show our fall color to great effect. The guest/photographer was George Holguin and he gave his permissio to post the photos as well as to mention his name as the contributior on our Breaking News page.

The slide show is linked on our What People Are Saying page but here it is as well:

Snow on the ground but sunny

We ended up with 5-6″ of snow from yesterday’s storm. It turned to rain mid-afternoon and was cold overnight so some of the snow was beaten down a bit but mostly it just froze in place.

The extra moisture from the rain has filled the creek up and it’s almost river like and can be seen and heard from nearly all of the guest cabins.

The expected weather for Thursday is fizzling out but more snow or rain is expected over the weekend – it should snow if it’s cold enough.

Second snow of the season is falling

12:40 pm update… it’s now a winter wonderland with a 5″ accummulation here at the inn (more at higher elevations) and big, pretty flakes are still falling. Time to throw another log on the fire.

We had a light snow over the Thanksgiving weekend but today’s snow will likely eclipse that. It’s 8 am, which is when the above photo was taken, and we’re already close to 2 inches with snow projected to continue falling all day.

We expect it to stay cold enough to last through the weekend so if you like playing in the snow come on up!
