Cool pines for Labor Day weekend

Relax through the Labor Day holiday in the cools pines. Minimums are now two nights.

There are still a few cabin rooms on our 6 acre paradise at Quiet Creek Inn and plenty of choices among our vacation rental cabins throughout Idyllwild.

While you’re at the Inn and you’re too relaxed to drive but still have a serious need to shop, just walk a few feet to our ‘Living Room’ gallery. One of Idyllwild’s newest and finest.

All roads lead to Idyllwild… and are open

The Cottonwood Fire is no threat to Idyllwild and the section of Highway 74 that was closed to fight the fire was opened as of 6:00 pm tonight.

Come on up!

Hwy 74 closed from Hemet to Mountain Center

Highway 74 is closed from Hemet to Mountain Center as a staging area for those fighting the Cottonwood Fire that is east of Hemet in the foothills. The fire is heading north and currently the western flank is of more concern than the eastern flank according to the public information officer at the Cranston Ranger Station.

Visitors to Idyllwild this weekend should plan on taking the northern and southern routes to Idyllwild. Those from San Diego County and Temecula area should follow the directions on our web site: “From San Diego” (there’s a link in the main nav bar called “Directions”). Those coming from the desert communities and points east should follow the recommended route on the “Directions” page. Those coming from Orange County County and other points west and north should take I-10 to Highway 243 and ignore the “for the gentlest drive” directions via Hwy 74 off of the Ramona Expressway.

New gourmet restaurant in Idyllwild: The Mountain Restaurant

Good news! There’s a new gourmet restaurant in Idyllwild that will satisfy those looking for an upscale dining experience. We had dinner there last night and tried a salad, soup, a couple of appetizers (pate & smoked salmon), three entrees (boneless Cornish game hen, salmon & rib eye steak), two deserts and two bottles of wine and had a delicious dining experience. The wait staff are proficient. The menu is not overpowering but offers something for everyone, including vegetarian options. The wine list is limited but carefully selected and moderately priced.

Jazz in the Pines August 29 & 30

The ever-popular Jazz in the Pines, which benefits Idyllwild Arts Academy scholarships, is the weekend of August 29 & 30. This is the biggest and most fun event of the year in Idyllwild and shouldn’t be missed.

We have a handful of well-priced vacation rental cabins available. Use our online reservation calendar (http://www.quietcreekinn.com/Reservation-Calendar.html) or give us a call for recommendations: 800-450-6110. We are sold out at the inn but do have a wait list for the 2010 event.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the gate but for additional information go to www.idyllwildjazz.com.

Spectacular Summer weather

We are experiencing a stunning Summer this year. Current night time temps are in the low 50s and daytime highs are in the low 80s. We experienced a week of warm weather in the middle of July but June and early July were unseasonably cool. There is still water in our portion of the creek and the foliage along the creek is lush and green.

We offer 10% off mid-week stays and 10% off every third booking (since 2006) through our Quiet Creek Travel Club program.
