Daffodils and croceus bid adieu and retire.
Tulips dressed in their best spring colors go to cotillion
amongst the greening grasses, lilac and wild roses.
Orange breasted robins, darkly crowned Stellars jays,
chickadees and nuthatches clutching to the pine bark
are all in attendance as quail run by in formal headress.
The birds will soon have children;
young rabbits with white tails will dodge and dart;
the tulips will bow down to the wild rose blossoms
who will replace them in a summer dance
along Strawberry Creek at Quiet Creek Inn.
